A Pattern Maker's Vise

I have been coveting a pattern maker’s vise for about ten years.  The price, and my poverty have kept me from making the purchase.  Every time I have drawn blood on myself, I have analyzed the situation and what would have solved it.  More often then not a pattern maker’s vise would have been a good way to prevent the injury.

Highland was kind enough to offer this guy for just under $200.

This thing was quite a bit of work to install, but it was worth it.

It has a huge range of positions and it locks into place solidly and holds securely.

It is a delight to use, I will show more on it later.

Hello Bob, and thanks for the link to your site. I am glad to see that you did what I am thinking of doing; recessing the vise so that it is flush with the edge of the bench. Looks great. I’m also debating painting it. It’s going to be a pain to get all the grease off in order to paint it, but I think it would be better in the long run since I live in a humid environment.
