Aponogeton

aponogeton

This is water hawthorn.  The scent is better than vanilla.  An amazing plant that likes cold weather.  It will bloom through the ice.

Hmmmnn… I guess from the “ogeton” in the name that it is related to Potamogeton?????

Maybe you get some ice in your ponds – but we don’t…. Nice idea tho…

  • The first time I saw Aponogeton distachyos, it was growing in the reflecting pools in front of the Greenwich Observatory. I immediately fell in love with the plant. The root is edible, and even canned for food in South Africa. It tends to prefer colder climes than ours and thrives in winter.
